The Podiatric Medicine Residency at Palmetto General Hospital is dedicated to providing residents with the highest quality of medical and surgical training. Goals
Residents will demonstrate competency in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of podiatric conditions while developing skills in both clinical and surgical settings.
Objectives
Residents are expected to:
Provide palliative management for keratotic lesions and nail disorders.
Implement management plans including footwear, padding, orthotics, braces, prosthetics, and custom shoes.
Manage fractures, dislocations, and sprains of the foot/ankle with immobilization (casting, splinting, taping).
Perform wound care, including debridement of ulcers.
Excise or destroy skin lesions (biopsy, laser procedures).
Perform nail avulsions or matrixectomy (partial/complete).
Conduct joint manipulation/mobilization to increase ROM or reduce pain.
Perform injections and aspirations, and manage with NSAIDs, narcotics, antibiotics, and antifungals.
Perform digital, first ray, midfoot, and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery when indicated.
Provide consultations/referrals and demonstrate knowledge of office management, including billing/coding, scheduling, and human resources.
