Mission Statement

The fellowship trains physicians to become skilled intensivists who deliver compassionate, evidence-based care. The program emphasizes leadership, patient safety, scholarship, and teamwork.

  • Large Internal Medicine Residency Program with Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Neuro-Vascular, & Neuro-Interventional Fellowships
  • Services offered include Structural Heart, Open Heart, Neuro Vascular Intervention, Neuro Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Bariatric Surgery

3 Fellows in Each Class (6 Total)

ACGME Accredited (10 Year Certified in 2021)

Current Rotations include SICU, ICU, CVICU/Echo, NCCU/Consults, Nights, Trauma, & CCU

Didactics take place Wednesday and Thursday and are based on Critical Care Medicine: Principles of Diagnosis and Management in the Adult (Dellinger & Parrillo)

Procedural Skills taught include insertion of Temporary Venous Pacemakers, Central Venous Catheters, Hemodialysis Catheters, Arterial Lines, Thoracostomy, Paracentesis, Lumbar Puncture, Intubation, and Bronchoscopy

Typical Day for our Fellows:

7:00 – Sign Out with Night Shift

7:30 – Breakfast

9:00 to 12:00 – Multi-Disciplinary Rounds (MDR)

12:00 – Lunch

13:00 – Didactics

14:00 to 19:00 – Perform Procedures & Finish Notes

19:00 – Sign Out with Night Shift

Education & Duration

  • Length: 2 years (PGY-4 & PGY-5)
  • Sites: Palmetto General Hospital, Delray Medical Center

Goals

  • Provide advanced ICU training and procedural expertise.
  • Foster patient- and family-centered care.
  • Develop fellows as leaders of multidisciplinary teams.
  • Engage fellows in quality improvement and research.

Rotations

    • Coronary Care Unit (CCU): Advanced cardiac critical care, ventilator and hemodynamic management, procedures.
    • Neurocritical Care: Stroke, hemorrhage, ICP monitoring, neuro-emergencies.
    • Trauma ICU: Resuscitation, hemorrhagic shock, perioperative trauma management.
    • Cardiovascular Surgery ICU/Ultrasound: Post-op care, bedside ultrasound, mechanical support (IABP, ECMO exposure).
    • Night Float: Independent ICU management and urgent procedures.
