Family Medicine Residency-Message from Director

A Message from our Program Director

Peter Cohen, D. O.

I am honored to be the Program Director of this Family Medicine Residency Program at Palmetto General Hospital and Nova Southeastern University. It had always been my dream to be a Program Director, and when the opportunity came to be the Program Director of the very program I graduated from, my dreams had come full circle!

My hope for all of my residents is that they take this opportunity to learn, be a sponge and absorb as much knowledge as possible. Take charge of your education and take this opportunity to learn!

I sincerely believe that our program has all the essential ingredients for you to become an outstanding physician. One thing we pride ourselves in is we work hard but we do it through camaraderie, teamwork, and by making every effort to maintain a sense of ‘family’.

My goal for you is to become great doctors but not at the expense of your physical and mental health. We are all in this together. One resonating theme that you will find when you speak with the residents is that they are all hard-working, happy individuals.

Welcome to Palmetto General Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program and enjoy your visit! Thank you.

A Message from our Associate Program Director

Lissette Perez Lazo, D.O.As a graduate of the PGH Family Medicine program, I am very grateful to be able to teach and guide residents and medical students throughout their medical education journey.

The PGH FM program is known for its teamwork, friendly atmosphere, and hard work. We are a big family that is hungry to learn and adapt to the rapidly changing field of medicine. We pride ourselves in training residents to be the best, well-rounded doctors that they can be so that they may provide compassionate, patient-centered, high-quality care for patients of all ages in their communities.

Our ideal candidate for residency is a medical student who is hard working, eager to learn, works well with others and is professional and reliable. The camaraderie in our residency program is second to none and we strive for resident well-being because happy residents learn and work better. Our interns need to be able to incorporate themselves into our team and be willing to help others and go the extra mile.

We sincerely welcome you to our PGH FM family and hope you enjoy your time here with us.
