Palmetto General Hospital is a Comprehensive Stroke Center, following national standards and guidelines that can significantly improve the outcomes of the most complex stroke cases. Most recently, Palmetto General Hospital has earned recognition from The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association (AHA)/American Stroke Association (ASA) as meeting The Joint Commission’s standards for Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification. This designation makes Palmetto General Hospital one of 110 hospitals in the nation—one of four in Florida—to receive this accreditation, thus raising the bar for stroke care across the network. The designation confirms we have developed successful initiatives on stroke prevention, rehabilitation, education, community awareness and research.

Neurological Services at Palmetto General Hospital

  • BrainPath: We are among the first hospitals in Miami-Dade to offer the 6 Pillar Approach for patients with subcortical brain abnormalities such as tumors and hemorrhages. This new surgical approach is designed to integrate several existing technologies and advances, allowing physicians to see, access, and remove abnormalities through an opening as small as a dime.
  • Stroke Treatment: Our Comprehensive Stroke Center is prepared to quickly and accurately diagnose and treat stroke patients. We have some of the latest diagnostic and therapeutic advances and offer a wide range of interventional neurology options that have the potential to stop a stroke in progress and minimize the potential damage.
  • Endovascular Neurosurgery: We specialize in endovascular neurosurgery, using catheters and radiology for the treatment of conditions affecting the central nervous system. These procedures are minimally invasive, requiring only a tiny incision to diagnose and treat the problem.
