Welcoming New Beginnings with Exceptional Labor and Delivery Care
Planning for your new arrival will need lots of preparation, and there are many decisions to be made. At Palmetto General Hospital, we hope you’ll find that this is an appropriate decision to make. We invite you to allow us to provide you outstanding care and show our dedication in caring.
At our Maternity Child Care Center, we offer a wide range of services that caters from prenatal to postpartum care and advanced labor and delivery services. We hope to make your birth experience as special and memorable possible. As you welcome your new baby to the world, we are committed in giving the best care and our commitment extends beyond the delivery room. You will have a friendly and knowledgeable Staff to guide you through all the education and special programs we offer, including pregnancy classes, Lactation and breastfeeding instruction, and infant safety.
Neonatal Intensive Care
At Palmetto General Hospital, we have a dedicated team of Neonatal Intensive Care Staff. Our Neonatologists are available 24/7 for the care of babies needing intensive care. Our Nursing Staff are skilled and prepared to handle and newborn emergencies.
During Your Stay
Very special time of your life requires very special team to care for you and baby. Our Maternity Child Care Center is set and designed specifically to cater to those needs. From the moment you arrive, we are looking forward to making your experience a very pleasant and comfortable one. Your health and safety is our priority.
With your needs in mind, Palmetto general Hospital created an environment to help make your birth experience an excellent one. Our accommodations include:
Labor & Delivery Suites – Our labor and delivery suites are
equipped with everything your doctors, nurses and other maternal specialists
need to provide you with excellent care. After delivery, the opportunity for
skin-to-skin bonding in the very first moments after birth, even in the event
of a C-section is offered.
Mother/Baby Suites: After delivery, you will be in the care
of the Mother and Baby Staff. Your comfort is very important to us, the Staff
will be there for any needs you will encounter during your stay. Family bonding
is encouraged. We have Lactation consultants who will make sure you are assisted
in breastfeeding needs and provide instructions to make breastfeeding a
wonderful bonding experience.
Surgical Suites – Our team of experienced labor and delivery
staff have the knowledge and skills to manage cesarean delivery (C-section) and
other surgical procedures.

A. Visiting Hours
In order to promote Patient & Family-Centered
Maternity Care, the following are guidelines for visiting hours within the
Maternity Unit:
1. Patient’s partner/support person is encouraged
to stay with patient in their room for support as needed 24 hours a day
2. Relatives, siblings, friends may visit at the
discretion/approval of the patient and medical team.
3. All visitors are prohibited from congregating in
the hallway or near nurse’s station due to patient privacy laws.
4. If any partner/support person or visitor’s
behavior becomes disruptive to the patient, staff, or other patients, he or she
will be asked to leave.
5. Visitors will be asked to avoid the designated
“Quiet Time” as established by each individual hospital.
This time is designed to help
new moms and babies rest and recover from birth, to allow for uninterrupted
time for family bonding and for the parents to learn about their new baby.
Newborn Infant
Security
1. For security purposes, all visitors must check
in at the nurse’s station before going to patient’s room.
2. For those units with locked entry, visitors will
ring in utilizing the electronic bell or call via phone located on the wall
next to the entry door of the unit. Staff will release the door to allow entry
or exit.
3. Visitors will be allowed with hospital-specific
guidelines. Please contact the Staff.

At Palmetto General Hospital, we know that birthing
